Private Investigators in Singapore
What is a Private Investigator (PI)?
PIs are independent civilian investigators hired by individuals or organizations dealing with civil or criminal matters that require surveillance, documentation, research, or interviews to provide evidence in legal, criminal, or business investigations.
Private investigators must have a keen eye, excellent observation skills, and an analytical mind. Often referred to as private detectives, these professionals use a number of surveillance and investigative techniques to gather accurate information on the subject or situation in question. Private investigators are licensed to practice in the state in which they work and may either work full time as employees or be contracted to work with private detective firms, police departments, private businesses and organizations, as well as individual clients.
Although the services they provide may differ depending on the case or industry in which they work, their skill sets are often very similar, as they are called upon to uncover facts and evidence, analyze information, and provide their clients with the results of their investigation.
According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), A Private Investigator’s licence is required if you are employed to perform any of the following functions:
a. Obtain and furnish information on the personal character or actions of any person or as to the character, nature of the business or occupation of any person;
b. Search for missing persons;
c. Obtain and furnish information on the causes, the origin of or responsibility for fires, libels, losses, incidents, damages or injuries to real or personal property;
d. Locate or recover lost or stolen property or obtain information on that property; or
e. Secure evidence for use in civil or criminal proceedings.
A licensed Private Investigator is not allowed to solicit for services on his own. Only the licensee of a Private Investigation Agency can advertise to provide private investigation services.
